If you're installing in-ground LED lighting for a garden path, driveway, or paving area and need a continuous run longer than standard profile lengths, it's possible to join multiple aluminium profiles. For example, to create a 4-metre linear light effect, two 2m profiles can be placed end to end and cut as needed.
However, this is not a simple DIY task. Outdoor and in-ground installations require a qualified installer – someone experienced with aluminium profiles and outdoor sealing methods. Mistakes in sealing or cabling can lead to moisture ingress and early failure.
Key Points for In-Ground Installations:
-
LED Strip: Use only IP68-rated strips, which can withstand long-term water exposure, even full submersion.
-
Sealing: All joints between profiles, cable entry points, and any drilled holes must be sealed with suitable silicone.
-
Cover: Once the LED strip is fully installed and tested, apply a final silicone seal along the top edges before placing the diffuser.
-
Maintenance: Even with the best components, outdoor and in-ground lighting will need ongoing checks. Moisture, condensation, and environmental wear are expected over time. Without maintenance, any installation may fail.
-
Installer Skill: A highly experienced installer can reduce the chance of issues and extend the life of the system, but this is never a 100% maintenance-free setup.
