Understanding Pixels
Each pixel on this strip is a group of 56 LEDs (14 each of Red, Green, Blue, and White). When controlled, all LEDs in that pixel respond together. For example, setting one pixel to purple will mix red and blue across the whole 62.5mm section, ensuring smooth, even colour.
Technical Example – DMX512 Control
If you want to run this strip using our SPI-to-DMX controller (Reference: HL-DS-L), keep in mind that one pixel = 4 DMX channels (R, G, B, W). With 16 pixels per metre, this equals 64 DMX channels per metre. A 5m roll therefore requires 320 DMX channels in total.
For larger installations, you can simply use one controller and one power supply per 5m roll. For example, four 5m rolls can be run with four controllers, all set to the same DMX start address. This way, you achieve 20 metres of addressable RGBW control, split into four independent circuits, but behaving as one extended system.
There are also advanced system setups that allow virtually unlimited DMX channels, giving full flexibility for large-scale projects.
Simpler Installations – RF Remote Option
For projects where DMX512 isn’t required, the same controller (HL-DS-L) also supports RF wireless control. You can pair it directly with the HL-R9 handheld remote, making it easy to operate without any DMX knowledge. This lets you run pre-programmed effects, adjust brightness, and control speed quickly and easily.
3-Channel DMX Emulation Mode
The HL-DS-L controller can also be set to a simplified mode where it only uses 3 DMX addresses: one channel selects the effect, one controls brightness, and one adjusts speed. This provides a quick and easy way to run dynamic effects without addressing every pixel individually. Please refer to the controller manual for setup instructions.
