3 Core Cable for Single Colour and Tunable LED Strips – 10 Metre Roll – 20 AWG

3-core flat ribbon cable, 20 AWG (0.50 mm²), supplied as a 10 metre roll for single-colour and tunable white LED strip work. This is the thicker of our two 3-core rolls. Confirm that any connector will actually accept 20 AWG, and check voltage drop for the length and load. On a 3-wire CCT strip the common core carries the full load, not just one colour channel. A 22 AWG 10 metre roll is also available where connectors will not take 20 AWG. Core colours can vary between batches.

20 AWG 3-core cable – 10 metre roll

3-core cable, 10 m roll
20 AWG = 0.50 mm²

This is the thicker 3-core roll, for single-colour and tunable white (CCT) LED strip tails where the connector will accept 20 AWG and the run needs more copper than 22 AWG. The thinner companion is the 22 AWG 3-core 10 metre roll (HL-3C-AWG22-10M).

Connectors and ribbon width

If you intend to use this cable with a solderless connector, check that the housing will take 20 AWG. Many compact 3-pin connectors are made for 22 AWG or 24 AWG and will not accept 20 AWG — 24 AWG is common on some of those clips. In that case use the 22 AWG roll if the housing will take it, or solder. A connector also has to match the strip width — a 10 mm clip will not seat on 8 mm or 12 mm tape. No connector works with every ribbon. Confirm both the wire size and the tape width, then test-fit. Matching 3-pin connectors are under Related Products; that list is not a guarantee of fit.

Voltage drop

Voltage drop must still be calculated. 20 AWG is better than 22 AWG for longer or heavier feeds, but it is not a licence for an unlimited run. Size the tail against the actual wattage and length. Inject power along the strip if the numbers are tight.

The common core on 3-wire tunable white

A typical CCT strip uses one shared positive (common anode) and two returns — warm white and cool white. The colour cores only carry their own channel. The shared positive carries the whole strip.

Example: 14.4 W/m 24 V tunable strip, 5 metres, both channels fully on:

  • Total load: 14.4 W/m × 5 m = 72 W
  • Current at 24 V: 72 W ÷ 24 V = 3 A

That 3 A is in the common core. You cannot run extra length because one colour channel looks lightly loaded. Size the cable against the combined current.

Core colours

Product images are for illustration. Core colours can vary; this cable is supplied from mixed stock. Do not expect the delivered colours to match the photographs. Identify each core with a meter before you terminate.

Installer note

Connectors, the common core on 3- to 6-wire tape, voltage drop and what should appear on the drawing are covered in our article Common-core current, connectors and voltage drop on 3- to 6-core LED ribbon.
