Bathroom Lighting Project – COB IP68 LED Strip Installation with PIR & Optional Smart Control

This case study shows how Hi-Line Lighting COB IP68 LED strips were used to light three areas in a bathroom: under the basin, inside a niche, and beneath a shower bench. The total LED strip length was approx 5.5 metres.

LED Strip Selection

The installer used COB IP68 LED strips available in three colour temperatures: 3000K, 4000K, and 6000K. These are available in both 5 metre and 10 metre rolls, each supplied with tails on both ends.

Each roll can be cut and used in two directions without needing to solder if cut from both ends. Strips are cuttable every 45mm, and the copper shaded zones indicate safe cut points. Cutting off-point will not damage the strip but will result in a short non-lit section.

Driver and Power Setup

A single 100W 24V IP67 driver was used to power all 5.5 metres:

Although this driver can support up to 6.6m of 14.4W/m strip, we recommend keeping the load below 5.5m for improved longevity and cooler operation.

The driver was wired to a wall switch and PIR sensor. This setup switches on the driver’s 240V AC input using either trigger. It’s a reliable solution for smaller loads.

Fixing and Accessories

Strips include 3M red double-sided adhesive for waterproof surfaces. In humid areas, stainless steel clips were added:

Optional Smart Upgrade – Zigbee Integration

For smart home applications, Zigbee motion and lighting control is possible. These setups are best handled by experienced users or automation installers.

Alternative Strip Type – High Brightness SMD

In areas where dot-free light is not critical, or where high brightness is preferred, we also offer SMD-type IP68 strips:

This strip runs at 28W per metre and is ideal for utility spaces or high-output applications. A larger driver will be required.
