Bathroom Lighting Project – COB IP68 LED Strip Installation with PIR & Optional Smart Control

This project showcases a 5.5m bathroom LED strip installation using Hi-Line COB IP68 strips (available in 3000K, 4000K, and 6000K). A 100W 24V IP67 driver powers three lighting zones: under-basin, niche, and shower bench. Pre-soldered tails on both ends simplify cutting and reuse. For waterproofing, IP68 connectors, end caps, and silicone were used. Optional Zigbee smart control is supported for advanced setups. An SMD IP68 high-brightness strip (28W/m) is also available for projects prioritising output over dot-free lighting.

How the WG-Z Zigbee Gateway Enables Smart Control for WZ5 and V5-L(WZ)

The WG-Z Tuya Zigbee Gateway is required if you're using Zigbee controllers like WZ5 or V5-L(WZ) and want to control them via the Tuya Smart Life app, Alexa, or Google Assistant. These controllers do not connect to WiFi directly. The WG-Z acts as a bridge between your Zigbee devices and your WiFi network. Once connected, you can enjoy full app and voice control. If you only plan to use Hi-Line RF remotes or touch panels, the WG-Z is not needed. For WiFi-based control without a hub, check the WT5 or V5-L(WT) models. The WG-Z supports up to 128 Zigbee devices and is perfect for expanding smart lighting across one or more zones.

Understanding RGBW LED Strip Wattage and Wiring Considerations

RGBW LED Strip Power and Wiring Guide The 15W per metre rating for RGBW SMD5050 strips is the total when all four channels are active. As a rough estimate, divide by four per channel, but allow extra room—white usually draws more. These strips use a 24V common anode. The positive line carries the full current, so connectors and terminals must be rated accordingly. Always check per pin current limits, not just total load.
