DMX512 to SPI Decoder – Waterproof with RF Control – Model: DS-WP
This DMX512 to SPI decoder is designed for controlling addressable LED pixel strips, including both 5V and 12V types. It converts DMX512 signals into SPI (digital data) output, making it ideal for dynamic lighting installations where pixel-level control is needed.
With IP65 protection, it’s suitable for indoor or outdoor projects, offering solid resistance to dust and water jets. Built-in RF wireless control allows easy operation without a separate DMX console, and the onboard digital display makes configuration straightforward.
Key Features:
Waterproof IP65 housing – suitable for outdoor use
Supports addressable RGB or RGBW LED strips (5V or 12V)
Works with 47 types of digital ICs, including SK6812(RGBW),WS2813 (RGB with backup data line), WS2814(RGBW), making it versatile for various installations.
2x SPI outputs: single-wire (DATA only) or dual-wire (DATA + CLOCK)
32 built-in dynamic modes: horse-race, flowing, chase, etc.
Digital display for setting DMX address, pixel type, length, and more
Compatible with DMX512, DMX512-A, DMX1990, and RDM
Built-in RF receiver – remote control option available (sold separately)
Not for Standard LED Strips
This decoder is only for addressable LED strips that use digital ICs. It will not work with standard single-colour or RGB strips that require PWM or voltage-based dimming.
How to Use It
Simply power the unit with a suitable DC source (matching your strip voltage), connect your DMX input (or use RF remote), and wire your addressable LED strip to the SPI output. Then use the digital screen to select your pixel type (e.g. SK6812), number of pixels, and DMX starting address.
For longer 5V strips, extra power must be injected at multiple points to avoid brightness loss.
How to Work Out the Maximum Strip Length
This controller supports up to 510 DMX channels total.
Each pixel uses a number of channels depending on its type:
RGB = 3 channels per pixel
RGBW = 4 channels per pixel
So, if you’re using a 60-pixel per metre RGBW strip, that’s:
60 pixels × 4 channels = 240 channels per metre
510 ÷ 240 = about 2.1 metres max
If it’s RGB instead:
60 × 3 = 180 channels per metre → up to 2.8 metres
If it’s a single-colour pixel (1 channel per pixel), you could control up to 8.5 metres
Always check the pixel count per metre (not just LED count) and do the maths before installation. For 5V installations, extra care is needed to prevent voltage drop — use power injection and short runs where possible.
