V1 5-36V 8A single-colour LED controller with push-dim and RF

HL-V1 dims one channel of constant-voltage single-colour LED tape from 5 V to 36 V, up to 8 A. A retractive wall switch or an optional 2.4 GHz remote sets the level. HL-V1-F is the 12–48 V sister, with a longer switch fade.

HL-V1 is a single-colour controller for constant-voltage LED tape. It sits between a 5–36 V driver and the strip, and it dims that one channel from a retractive wall switch or from an optional 2.4 GHz remote.

Use it on shelves, covings, wardrobes, under-cabinet light, skirtings, signs and other single-colour runs where the whole length dims together. It is for indoor use (IP20). It is not a power supply, and it does not run colour-changing, tunable-white or mains-voltage lamps.

How to wire it

Connect the constant-voltage driver to the input terminals, positive to positive and negative to negative. The driver must be the same voltage as the tape, and its output should be at least 1.2 times the tape load. A driver that is only just large enough can make the light flicker at full brightness. Connect the tape to the output terminals.

The wall control is a retractive switch, the momentary kind that springs back, not a latching rocker. Wire it between the push terminal and the push common, which is the input negative. A short press turns the light on or off. Holding it for 1 to 6 seconds dims up or down, and the next long press dims the other way. The level is remembered, including after a power cut.

One switch can feed up to 25 controllers. Hold the switch for more than 10 seconds and those controllers come up together to full brightness, so a larger job does not need an extra sync wire. Keep the cable from the switch to the furthest controller within 20 metres.

Use cable of 0.5 to 2.5 mm² and tighten the terminals. A 1 mm² conductor is enough for this 8 A output. Leave at least 20 cm between this controller and the driver, and the same gap between controllers. Do not cover the case with metal, and fit it at least 1 metre above the floor so a remote can still reach it.

What it can drive

One channel, 8 A. That is 40 W at 5 V, 96 W at 12 V, 192 W at 24 V and 288 W at 36 V. It does not run on 48 V. If the tape needs more than 8 A, add a constant-voltage power repeater on the output rather than loading this controller past 8 A.

Remote control

The handset is optional and sold separately. HL-V1 pairs with the single-colour 2.4 GHz remotes in Related Products, up to 10 handsets. One handset can dim several controllers together. Each controller also passes the signal on, about 30 metres in open space, so a run of controllers can carry the signal further through a room.

To pair from the controller: short-press Match, then immediately press on/off on a single-zone remote, or the zone key on a multi-zone remote. The indicator flashes when the handset is stored. Hold Match for 5 seconds to clear every handset. The user manual on the Attachments tab also shows the power-restart method.

Switch fade

As supplied, the light fades in and out in 0.5 seconds. To use a 3 second fade, hold Match for 5 seconds, then short-press Match three times. The indicator blinks three times. Hold Match for 10 seconds to return to the 0.5 second fade.

HL-V1 and HL-V1-F

Both are 8 A single-colour controllers with a push input and the same 2.4 GHz handsets. HL-V1-F is the 12–48 V model, so it covers 48 V tape, and its switch fade can be set to 1, 3, 5, 10 or 20 seconds. HL-V1 is the 5–36 V model, so it also covers 5 V tape, and its fade is 0.5 seconds or 3 seconds. Choose HL-V1-F when the light should ease on and off over a longer time, or when the tape is 48 V.
